June 9, 2016 Department of Elder Affairs to Recognize Elder Abuse Awareness Day In recognition of June 15 as Elder Abuse Awareness Day and to help build safer communities for Floridas 4.9 million seniors, the Department of Elder Affairs (DOEA) will host a fraud prevention seminar to educate seniors, families, local businesses, and caregivers on preventing frauds, scams, and identity theft. March 14, 2016 DOEA Secretary Verghese to Speak at the 19th Annual Alzheimers Educational Conference Taking place in Palm Beach, the Secretary will participate in the conference, which is hosted by Alzheimers Community Care, a non-profit organization committed to ongoing advocacy efforts. With the theme of Pathways: Navigating Your Way, the conference will provide family and professional caregivers, as well as healthcare providers, with the knowledge and tools necessary to give the best possible care for patients with Alzheimers disease and related neurocognitive disorders. February 19, 2016 Elder Affairs Secretary Sam Verghese Confirmed by Florida Senate On February 18, 2016, the full Senate voted favorably for the confirmation of Department of Elder Affairs Secretary Samuel P. Verghese. Secretary Verghese has served as Secretary since December of 2014.
