Group travels to Israel to connect with Jewish heritage – Florida Times-Union

Twenty Jewish mothers from Jacksonville travelled to Israel for eight days for a Momentum journey with the Jewish Womens Renaissance Project and Israels Ministry of Diaspora Affairs. The trip, which took place June 26-July 3, began in the city of Safed and ended in Masada, a national park in Israel.

During the 20th Maccabiah Games next month, about 7,000 Jewish athletes from 80 countries will descend upon the Holy Land to join 2,500 Israeli athletes in the Olympic-style competition. Held every four years, the Jewish multi-sport competition is the world’s third-largest sporting event.

Israel Pushing For Secret Ballot As part of its efforts to garner international support for an independent Palestinian state in the West Bank, Gaza Strip and east Jerusalem, Palestinians have appealed to the UNs Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) to protect the Old City of Hebron from Israel by making it a Palestinian world heritage site. UNESCO is due to vote on the issue next week, and Israel, which sharply opposes the move, is pushing for a secret ballot. Earlier this month, Israel blocked a UNESCO team from visiting the city, where about 800 Jewish settlers live among 100,000 Palestinians.
