One Wednesday at 8 AM, some 60-80 human rights advocates marched with drums and chants to the sites inside Al-Walaja al-Jadia (the new Al-Walaja) where the Israeli occupation forces are uprooting trees and destroying the beautiful landscape to separate people from their agricultural lands and to allow for further expansion of illegal colonies built on Palestinian lands.

Israel - Hundreds of thousands of people have been out on the streets of Israel protesting for change. Three weeks ago, mass protests began by ordinary people angry about the high cost of living particularly for accommodation. Today, tent cities have grown up in major towns including Tel Aviv.

American Senator Patrick Leahy is pushing for a bill that will halt US assistance to three elite Israeli army units because of alleged human rights violations. Leahy, a Democrat and a senior member of the US Senate wants the American government to stop sending assistance to the Israel Navy's elite Shayetet 13 (Navy Seals) , the Ground Forces special undercover Duvdevan unit and the Air Force's commando Shaldag unit. Head of the Senate Appropriations Committee's sub-committee on foreign operations, Leahy was one of the main initiators of a 1997 bill barring the US from providing military assistance or funding to foreign military units suspected of human rights violations or war crimes.
