Mr Charles Otegbade, the Director, Search and Rescue, National Emergency Management Agency, said proper forensic test was needed to identify the victims of the collapsed Synagogue church building. Otegbade told newsmen on Friday at the site of the collapsed building that the death toll presently stood at 86 and while 131 were still in the hospital. He said that he was there to extend a warm hand of fellowship to the church on behalf of President Goodluck Jonathan

Followers of a controversial preacher and televangelist prevented rescue workers from getting to victims of a collapsed building in Lagos last week, in an accident that claimed the lives of at least 84 people, according to a Nigerian official. Nigerian Emergency Management Agency said Friday that lives were lost as a result of church officials preventing workers from rescuing people trapped inside the multi-storey shopping mall and hotel in the port city. NEMAs spokesman Ibrahim Farinloye told the Associated Press that the building collapsed at 12:44pm on September 12, but emergency responders did not get full access to the site until two days later.

South African President, Jacob Zuma, on Thursday, said he had raised an Inter- Ministerial Task team to help manage the synagogue building collapse in Nigeria, in which 67 South Africans died. Zuma made the disclosure on the occasion of the Presidential Local Government Summit 2014, taking place in Midrand, Johannesburg. He said, The task team will support families and do whatever is necessary to manage the impact of this tragedy.
