February 19, 2014|12:55 pm Jewish leaders have expressed outrage of a study guide Presbyterian Church (USA) recently released regarding the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, saying that the publication is "sending Jews to the trash-heap of history." Rabbi Abraham Cooper, associate dean of the Los Angeles-based Simon Wiesenthal Center, and Rabbi Yitzchok Adlerstein, the Center's director of interfaith affairs, wrote a column on Fox News website denouncing a guide titled "Zionism Unsettled: A Congregational Study." In their column, Cooper and Adlerstein said that the "Zionism Unsettled" study guide was "sending Jews to the trash-heap of history." "Presbyterian churches are teaching that their Jewish neighbors are inherently racist and prone to abusing the rights of others," wrote Cooper and Adlerstein."To be clear, this is no mere attack on Israeli policies, but rather on the very legitimacy of the Zionist enterprise." Cooper and Adlerstein added that with the publication of "Zionism Unsettled" PC (USA) leadership "have crippled dialogue with the Jewish people." Before I take your questions, I just wanted to note that the My Brothers Keeper event, which was postponed last week due to weather, has been rescheduled for Thursday, February 27th. Q The Geneva talks between the Syrian government and the opposition seem to have officially broken down over the weekend with no plans at this point for them to resume. Does the Geneva process remain the administrations main focus in terms of a resolution on Syria, or are you looking -- even if its diplomatic -- for another process at this point?
MR. CARNEY: Well, the talks are in recess, thats correct. The international community needs to use this time to determine how to use -- or rather, needs to move forward in determining how to use this time most effectively in order to bring about a political solution.
