Every day actors and other artists arrive in Los Angeles, lured by the prospect of employment in film and television. And every day, it seems, another of these folks discovers one of Southern Californias best-kept secrets: its thriving year-round theater scene, which by our count regularly mounts more annual productions than New York, Boston, Chicago, and San Francisco combined. It remains a strong and growing community, even with the countrys economic downturn. Southern California theater has become a bona fide local industry, with increasing audiences and numbers of union contracts.
We at Back Stage have been doing our small part to support that industry with this annual theater guide, an indispensable listing of theaters, companies, and production services for theater professionals: playwrights, composers, directors, designers, and actors.

Spain anti-Semitism new legislation Spain #39;s Jewish community has called for changes to the country #39;s penal code to better combat online anti-Semitism and Holocaust denial. The president of the Federation of Jewish Communities in Spain reported that recent surveys show that 35 percent of Spanish students would not like a Jewish study partner and that prejudices against Jews persist in Spain. Spain #39;s government last month unveiled draft amendments to the country #39;s criminal code that would make Holocaust denial illegal if its aim is to incite violence

35 Gaza Rockets Hit Israel After 6 Palestinians Are Killed - Missile Attack 35 Gaza Rockets Hit Israel After 6 Palestinians Are Killed - Missile Attack More than 20 rockets fired from the Gaza Strip struck Israel after an outbreak of fighting yesterday between Israel and the Hamas-controlled territory violence killed at least six Palestinians. The latest round of violence was ignited when Palestinian militants fired an anti-tank missile at an Israeli patrol along the Gaza border fence today, wounding four soldiers, one seriously, the army said in an e-mailed statement. The Israeli military responded with tank shelling and several air strikes into Gaza, including a direct hit on one rocket-launching squad, killing six and wounding more than 30, according to Ashraf al- Qedra, spokesman for the Hamas-run Health Ministry in Gaza.

Gaza sees cross-border violence Israeli tank fire killed four Palestinians and wounded 25 in the Gaza Strip. The clash began after an anti-tank missile hit an Israeli military patrol jeep wounding four soldiers. The Israeli military then responded with tank and machine gun fire.
