Israel skeptical over Abbas #39; land claims drop Israel skeptical over Abbas #39; land claims drop Top Israeli government officials have expressed skepticism over claims by Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas, that he is willing to make concessions on a major sticking point in the peace process in any future negotiations between the two powers. In an interview with Israel #39;s Channel 2 TV, Abbas said he had no claim to his former hometown of Safed from which he fled as a refugee during the 1948 war, this has been widely interpreted as dropping demands for a right of return for Palestinian refugees to homes in Israel.
