Barry Levinson is an Oscar-winning director for Rain Man, has earned three Academy Award nominations as a screenwriter--for And Justice for All, Diner and Avalon--and garnered two more nods for Bugsy, one for directing, the other for Best Picture as a producer. He also has eight career DGA Award nominations, winning for Rain Man in 1989. A nationwide commemoration on International Holocaust Remembrance Day (IHRD) last Thursday featured recollections from a survivor, candle lighting ceremonies in all states and territories, a reflection from Prime Minister Scott Morrison, and findings from a new Australian Holocaust survey. The online event was hosted by the Australian Holocaust Museum Alliance on January 27, anniversary of the liberation of Auschwitz in 1945.

The Board of Deputies has accused the Russian President Vladimir Putin of a trivialisation and distortion of the historical facts of the Holocaust. In a statement on Monday the communal organisation said that alongside the UK Jewish community that had been deeply affected by the invasion of Ukraine by Russia and the siege of Kyiv currently being undertaken by Russian forces.
