13th annual Martin Luther King Jr. Countywide Celebration. 4 p.m. Jan. 17, Hilton Garden Inn, 1501 S. Neil St., C. The cities of Champaign and Urbana, Champaign County Board, Parkland College and the University of Illinois invite citizens to attend. Free.

Herb Day 2014. 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Jan. 18, Holiday Inn Hotel and Conference Center, 1001 W. Killarney St., U. Educational sessions with speakers including Rosemary Gladstar of Sage Mountain Herbs, Holly Shimizu of the National Botanic Garden in Washington, D.C., and chef Marcus Terhune from the Urbana Holiday Inn. First educational session begins, 9 a.m. Retail area selling a variety of herbs, spices and gardening products, books and products from the presenters. Champaign Area Fish Exchange Winter Auction. 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Jan. 18, Urbana Civic Center, 108 Water St., U. Doors open at 8 a.m. Auction at 10:30 a.m. Fish, plants, food, equipment, books may be offered for sale. 359-6707, champaignfishguy1@yahoo.com, champaignfish.com.

MLK Commemoration: A Service of Celebration Event. 4:30 p.m. Jan. 19, Foellinger Great Hall, Krannert Center, Urbana. A celebration of Martin Luther King Jr.s legacy begins with the Community Choir at 4:30 p.m., followed by speakers at 5 p.m. The theme is Honoring the Civil Rights Movement as the Struggle Continues: Empowering the Dream ... Make It Your Own. Free.

Kickoff for Champaign Relay for Life. 6 to 8 p.m. Jan. 21, Inman Place, 17 E. University Ave., C. Drop-in event with prizes, raffles and information. Free parking behind the building off of Walnut Street. Team captains and members plus anyone interested in forming a team welcome to attend.
