LETTER: What divides us

Posted By on June 23, 2012

Defense Secretary Leon Panetta just recently thanked gay and lesbian military members for their service, as the Pentagon prepares to mark June as gay pride month with an official salute. Whats next, we set aside a month to thank hour heterosexual military personnel for their service? We now have black history month, womens history month, Hispanic heritage month, etc. Where does all this end? How about we just celebrate American history in conjunction with the Fourth of July? The second thing that we need to get away from is this African American, Hispanic American, Jewish American and European American ethnic descriptions. Unless you were born in Africa, or some other country, you are an American, period. Lets be proud to be American. All of these celebrations and special recognition days are in many cases divisive. I believe in being inclusive, do away with all this nonsense and celebrate only our National Holidays as Americans. This letter is not politically correct and I dont care. Look what political correctness has gotten us; we now celebrate sexuality.
