Yuli Edelstein was a founding member of the Yisrael ba-Aliya party in 1996, and has been a member of Knesset since May of that year. Edelstein served as Minister of Immigrant Absorption from 1996 to 1999, as Deputy Speaker of the Knesset between 1999 and 2001, and has Deputy Minister of Immigrant Absorption from 2001 until 2003, as which time his party merges with the Likud party.
