I take issue with the letter signed by Will Thomas, et al., regarding House Bill 1135 mandating Holocaust education. The letter writers characterize the Anti-Defamation League (ADL) as having a history of smearing Muslims, Arabs, and Black Lives Matter.

For over 100 years, the Anti-Defamation League has been a leader in the effort to end hate and intolerance of every kind. Currently, ADL provides educational programs on a myriad of topics. Regarding its Black Lives Matter program, ADL says, This high school lesson provides an opportunity for students to learn more about Black Lives Matter and the activists involved, explore the controversy about using the term All lives matter, and posit their [Black Lives Matter] point of view in writing to a person of their choice.

ADLs website page titled Anti-Muslim Bigotry identifies seven different efforts to fight such bigotry, with the introduction stating: ADL plays a leading role in exposing and combating anti-Muslim bigotry. As levels of anti-Muslim bigotry continue to surface , ADL has produced reports and resources on several groups and individuals whose public campaigns have both sheltered and fueled such bigotry. One specific area ADL has fought against is the claim that Muslims seek to introduce Sharia, or Islamic law, into the American court system. Another area ADL is countering involves the claim that American Muslims are defying social distancing rules and/or actively trying to spread the coronavirus.

ADL isnt perfect, but it isnt the organization alleged by the letter writers.
