Rabbi Lord Sacks visits Boca Raton

During the week of Thanksgiving, Boca Raton Synagogue (BRS) the large Modern Orthodox synagogue in Boca Raton hosted Rabbi Lord Jonathan Sacks global religious leader, philosopher, author and moral voice for our time.

Rabbi Sacks is the former chief rabbi of Great Britain. Rabbi Sacks is currently the Ingeborg and Ira Rennert Global Distinguished Professor of Judaic Thought at New York University, as well as the Kressel and Ephrat Family University Professor of Jewish Thought at Yeshiva University (also in New York City).

The highlight of the visit was Shabbat morning (Nov. 29) when Rabbi Sacks addressed the BRS congregation with more than 1,100 people in attendance.

Said Rabbi Efrem Goldberg, senior rabbi of Boca Raton Synagogue: "It is a wonderful privilege for our community to have hosted such a renowned and distinguished scholar and rabbi. Rabbi Sacks' ability to communicate the uniqueness of our timeless Jewish values and beliefs makes him a once-in-a-generation personality."

While in Boca Raton, Rabbi Sacks also:

Met at BRS with local rabbis from all denominations of Judaism.

Met with more than 1,000 students from local Jewish day schools, including Hillel Day School, Torah Academy and Donna Klein Jewish Academy of Boca Raton, and Scheck Hillel Day School of North Miami Beach.

Met with more than 50 local Jewish educators.

Conducted a Saturday night concert with Chazzan Shimon Craimer.

Rabbi Sacks said: "I've been all over the United States and appreciate South Florida. South Florida is unique. You have multiple, strong Jewish communities in a larger area that interact so well together."
