Sons of Jacob Synagogue

The open house will take place on Sunday, June 25 from noon to 3 p.m.

The event will feature live Klezmer music, and a special exhibit detailing the relationship between some of the members of Sons of Jacob and Providence College in the early 20th century.

Sons of Jacob Synagogue

Sons of Jacob Synagogue was built in 1906 to serve the Jewish community in the North End along Orms Street, Douglas Avenue, and Chalkstone Avenue. The congregation grew, necessitating the addition of the second-floor sanctuary in 1922.

Though most of the 300 families that once made up the congregation have since moved to Providences East Side and surrounding suburbs,a small group continues to worship inthe ground floor where the synagogue first began.

Future plans for the building include establishing a home for the newly formed Rhode Island Jewish Museum.
