JERUSALEM More than six months into the war in Gaza and with dimming hopes for a cease-fire deal, Palestinians there are growing more critical of Hamas, which some of them blame for the months-long conflict that has destroyed the territory and their lives. The war has displaced most of the Gaza Strips population, killed tens of thousands of people and pushed the enclave toward famine, its infrastructure in ruins. The Israeli military waged a punishing campaign to eliminate Hamas after the group, which has ruled Gaza for 17 years, attacked Israel on Oct.

About two years ago, while I was Israel's Ambassador to Canada, before I resigned due to the change in government and the promotion of the judicial-political coup in Israel, I, along with my colleagues, heads of Israeli missions in North America and Europe, faced displays of hatred, incitement, and delegitimization led by organizations that call themselves "pro-Palestinian." Even then, we tried to expose their true faces and present them as they are: organizations representing the new anti-Semitism, sly and sanctimonious, cleverly blending hatred of Jews with hatred of Zionists and absolute delegitimization of the very existence of the State of Israel, under the guise of "legitimate" criticism towards the Israeli government's policies concerning the Palestinians and settlements. Often, these organizations, many of which are funded and supported by countries like Iran and Qatar, manage to camouflage their true motives, which, in the narrow and immediate sense, are to completely undermine Israel's legitimacy to exist as the nation-state of the Jewish people in its historic homeland.

As Israels effort to uproot the Hamas terror organization from Gaza stretches into its seventh month, the battle for the moral high ground and international support rages online and in the media. Hamas plan to portray Israel as an indiscriminate aggressor seems to be working, with a willing assist from international media outlets and politicians in the US and around the world. Despite Israels willingness to negotiate while Hamas and despite almost unparalleled efforts to protect Palestinians during the war Israel is still facing a daunting amount of pressure and condemnation

The path to Palestinian statehood has been crushed beneath an avalanche of bombs, bullets, smoke, and fire. After Hamas is destroyed Israel must retain security control over Gaza to ensure that Gaza will no longer pose a threat to Israel, a requirement that contradicts the demand for Palestinian sovereignty, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahus office said in a prepared statement in January.

Every time I write, as I did last week, that I dont think anti-Zionism is necessarily antisemitic, I get emails from Jewish readers that are angry, disappointed or sometimes simply baffled. Israel is the political entity through which the Jewish people exercises its natural right of self-determination and control over its own fate, said one typical recent message. How is singling out the Jewish people to deprive it of those rights not antisemitic

(March 7, 2024 / JNS) Tufts University is investigating reports of some extremely disturbing antisemitic words and conduct directed at Jewish students who opposed anti-Israel resolutions in the student government and Islamophobic actions against students who supported them. The school will hold accountable any student found to have engaged in these behaviors, wrote the university president and other senior academic officials. Let us be entirely clear: Antisemitic and Islamophobic words and actions are entirely unacceptable and should be met with condemnation from the entire community, regardless of your perspective on the resolutions, they added
