Cricket Australia XI 5 for 189 (Turner 73) beat South Africans 167 (Rossouw 47, Ashkenazi 3-21, Muirhead 3-25) by 22 runs Scorecard

The South Africans were beaten by 22 runs by a young Cricket Australia XI containing only one player over the age of 23 at North Sydney Oval. Allrounder Ashton Turner played the starring role for CA XI, smashing 73 off 46 balls before dismissing the hard-hitting Rilee Rossouw and David Miller in the South African chase.

Having won the toss, CA XI made a powerful start, with all their top-four batsmen scoring more than 20 at strike rates of more than 136. Turner, batting at No. 3, hit three sixes and seven fours in his innings. Seb Gotch also hit three sixes in his 40 off 25 balls to lead his team to 189. Kyle Abbott was the best of the South African bowlers, taking 2 for 22 in four overs. Kagiso Rabada and Wayne Parnell went for 46 and 44 in their spells.

Rilee Rossouw was the top scorer in South Africa's chase, making 47 off 29 balls, as the rest of the batsmen failed against the pace of Ben Ashkenazi and the legspin of James Muirhead, who took three wickets apiece. They slipped from 1 for 59 to 6 for 96 before Parnell's 12-ball 35 provided some propulsion. The experienced JP Duminy and Miller were out for 6 and 0. Offspinner Turner finished with 2 for 21 as South Africans were dismissed for 167 in 18.5 overs.
